Deepak Lamba
Assistant Professor

Dr. Lamba's research is focused on identifying new methods to treat degenerative vision disorders, including macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa, using stem cell technology.  Dr. Lamba earned his medical degree from University of Mumbai, India, his Master's in Bioengineering from University of Illinois, Chicago, and a Ph.D. from University of Washington in Seattle for his work on generating and transplanting retinal cells derived from human stem cells.

Thelma Garcia
Administrative Laboratory Manager

Thelma graduated from UC Davis in 2009 with a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry, focusing on macromolecule characterization, synthesis, and intermolecular interactions. Under direct supervision of Dr. Lamba, she assists in performing experiments related to pluripotent cells and synthesis of small molecules. Other responsibilities include general lab management duties, scheduling and planning assistance, budget monitoring and purchase orders approval, providing technical assistance to students and other laboratory personnel, obtaining approvals required for environmental safety, animal use, and stem cell use (e.g., laboratory clearance, IACUC, IRB, SCRO, and BUA), and assisting in the assembly of materials for grant and fellowship applications.

Joe Reynolds
Graduate Student - Dominican University

Joe graduated from the University of Washington in 2011 with a BS in Biochemistry. He is currently seeking his MS in Biological Sciences at Dominican University, and works in the Lamba Lab as part of the program. Joe hopes his background in stem cell biology and its applications in regenerative medicine will aid in his continuing work with the lab.

Jie Zhu
Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Jie graduated from Miami University in 2013 with a PhD in Zoology. Her research interests are focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms that regulate retinal tissue regeneration in a variety of animal models. She works under the direct supervision of Dr. Lamba to conduct research to develop strategies to restore vision in mouse models generated to mimic human retinal degeneration diseases.
