Mark Cutis


Mark Cutis joined Abu Dhabi Investment Council in March 2008 as CIO for the newly created role of “Global Special Situations.” Prior to that he was in Tokyo for 6 years with Shinsei as CIO of the bank’s portfolios as well as with HVB as CEO of Japan.

At HVB, the Munich-headquartered German Bank (now Unicredito), he was originally hired in their New York branch as treasurer for the Americas where he was also responsible for developing and directing HVB’s proprietary allocation to alternative investments. Subsequently, he was transferred to Tokyo as the CEO of Japanese operations.

His core expertise is in proprietary trading, ALM, and asset allocation. His experience includes both direct hands-on management of risk and risk-takers as well as allocating to external managers in alternatives. He has experience both on the buy side as well as the sell side. He has worked in New York, London, Frankfurt, and Tokyo.

Mr. Cutis speaks French and Greek and has a working knowledge of German. He is currently studying Japanese and Spanish. He and his wife have three daughters.
